Summary
Irresistibile Piwi is an Italian wine event focused on Piwi varieties, a term derived from the German Pilzwiderstandsfähige Rebsorten, referring to grape varieties bred for increased resistance to fungal diseases such as downy mildew and powdery mildew. These varieties are typically developed through crossings between Vitis vinifera and other vine species, with the aim of reducing (but not necessarily eliminating) the need for plant protection treatments.
The event was founded by Luca De Palma, an enologist associated with Chiericati Vini in Ticino, and Igor Bonvento, an agronomic consultant based in Verona who has worked with resistant varieties since 2009. It developed from PiwiTastingFriends, a tasting group established by the founders in 2021.
The festival takes place at the Dogana Veneta in Lazise, a historic Venetian customs building on the shores of Lake Garda. The program includes producer stands, public tastings, educational sessions, and discussions on viticulture practices. The 2026 edition, scheduled for 26–27 April, is expected to feature more than 60 producers and around 180 wines.
The event is associated with organizations such as Piwi-Italia and Piwi International, which promote the development and recognition of fungus-resistant grape varieties.
